SIGNALS OF EXCELLENCE
The European Private Hospital Awards (EPHA) is the stage to celebrate the dynamism of the private hospital sector in Europe, the level of differentiation achieved, its leading positioning in terms of investment, management models, patient focus and clinical approaches.
Following the previous successful editions in Lisbon (2022, 2023), Bucharest (2024) and Madrid (2025) the fifth edition will take place, this year, in Prage, on november 10, 2026.
Organized by the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP) and AGEL, a healthcare provider in Central Europe, in collaboration with EY, the 2026 event will bring together nearly 300 key representatives of the healthcare sector from 17 European countries, including executives, healthcare professionals, institutional leaders, and companies in the health and technology sectors.
These Awards were created in 2022, under the scope of the European Union of Private Hospitals (UEHP), on the proposal of the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitals (APHP).

The European Private Hospital Awards aims to showcase the very best initiatives in the private hospital sector in Europe. In accordance with the criteria defined in the REGULATION, the event awards the top performing European private healthcare facilities in nine categories:

Empowering Patient Care Experience
Recognizes innovative initiatives that enhance the patient experience across the entire care journey. This includes not only improvements in healthcare delivery, but also efforts to meet patient expectations, emotional needs, and overall satisfaction.
TECHNOLOGY
Excellence in Health Tech Innovation
Honors hospitals that have successfully adopted or implemented cutting-edge technologies or practices that significantly improve medical treatments, diagnostics, or patient management systems.
PREVENTION
Innovation in Preventive Care
Celebrates forward-thinking initiatives focused on disease prevention at both individual and community levels. This includes programs aimed at reducing health risks and curbing the spread of communicable diseases.

Acknowledges healthcare organizations that prioritize continuous education, skill enhancement, and career growth for medical professionals. This award also highlights initiatives that foster a supportive and positive workplace environment.

HAI Prevention and good clinical practice
Awards hospitals that have demonstrated systematic efford for preventing HAI and empowering the safety and quality of provided healthcare services.
ROBOTIC
Excellence in Robotic Cardiac Surgery
Recognizes hospitals and healthcare networks that are pioneering the use of robotic cardiac surgery to improve precision, patient safety, clinical outcomes, and recovery. This category celebrates initiatives that transform highly specialized innovation into a sustainable and future-ready model of care.
GREEN PRACTICES
Sustainable and Green Practices in Hospitals
Recognizes initiatives that support environmental sustainability in hospitals. This includes eco-friendly practices, resource efficiency, and sustainable hospital design.
ARCHITECTURE
Excellence in Hospital Architecture
This category recognizes outstanding, newly built hospitals and hospital modernization projects. Hospitals are assessed for their economic and functional efficiency. Architectural excellence is emphasized, which facilitates the facility's adaptability to the changing demands of medical technology. Interior aesthetics are valued for their impact on patient well-being. Special attention is paid to sustainability and environmental impact.

2025
The fourth edition of the European Private Hospital Awards, held on 29 October at the auditorium of Fundación CaixaForum in Madrid, brought together representatives of Europe’s leading hospital groups to recognise nine healthcare projects across a wide range of fields, including technology, sustainability, management and professional development. Hospitals from Spain, Ukraine and Poland received the 2025 awards.
2024
The third edition of EPHA was organized by Palmed, the Romanian association of private hospitals. Portugal won in five categories. Bulgaria and Romania won in the remaining two categories, in a well-attended ceremony that included representatives from various sectors of the European healthcare universe.
2023
The second edition of EPHA – held on 25 May in Lisbon at the Carlos Lopes Pavilion, under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic – awarded four of the seven trophies in dispute to Portuguese private hospitals. Spain, Italy and Poland won the remaining three categories, in a ceremony attended by the Portuguese Minister of Health, Manuel Pizarro.
